There is no a fixed time and mileage for motorcycle battery of when it should be replaced. Generally, it is replaced when it is ‘broken’. We shall keep asking, but when?
The lifespan of a quality motorcycle battery shall be about 3 years, and it can be used longer if it is well maintained. The replacement time is mainly based on the driving habits and maintenance of the bike owner. As long as the battery is charged in a regular and correct way, the battery will generally not be scrapped in advance.
How to determine a motorcycle battery should be replaced
1. When the battery is damaged, it is impossible to start the engine, or it is difficult to start the car. It should be replaced when the engine is turned off as soon as the oil is loose. Therefore, test the internal resistance and voltage of the battery every time you perform maintenance.
2. When bike is temporarily parking, the headlights suddenly dimmed, probably because the charging power of the engine has dropped. If the battery is not strong at this time, the power ratio of the headlights outside the car will drop significantly.
3. Insert the start key of the motorcycle and press the horn on the handlebar. The sound is small and weak or there is no sound at all. After several consecutive presses, the sound changes from loud to small or can not be heard, which means that the battery is seriously damaged.
As the number of charges increases, the storage capacity of the battery may also decrease. However, maintaining good driving habits during daily use of the car can greatly extend the service life of the battery. When the engine is not started, it is best not to turn on the electrical equipment on the car that consumes electricity. In addition, try not to park the car outdoors in winter, which will reduce the service life of the battery.
